7 WAYS TO PREVENT CHEST ACNE

Acne on the face is something we’ve all seen (if not experienced). But the truth is that most people with facial acne also suffer from som-facial rm of body acne, mostly chest or back.

Regardless of location, acne is mostly caused by a buildup of excess oil, clogged pores, bacteria and inflammation. When the skin’s natural oil gets trapped in clogged pores, it becomes a breeding ground for bacteria. If the blockage is close to the skin’s surface, the acne will be mild (blackheads/ whiteheads) but incase the infection is much deeper, the acne gets more severe.

We’ve scoured over many remedies and handpicked our top 7 tried and tested ways to get rid of chest acne and leave no trace behind…

Oatmeal

We know that the real devil behind acne is excess oil. What better than oatmeal to absorb oil + cleanse pores to get any possible dirt out of the skin? Here’s how you turn breakfast into a quick-n-easy acne treatment.

Step 1: Cook the oatmeal and stir in a teaspoon of honey and lemon juice

Step 2: Apply the paste on the acne affected chest area and leave on for 30 minutes.

Step 3: Rinse with warm water.

Lemon Juice

Due to its super acidic nature, lemon juice is a miracle ingredient when it coms to cleansing. It can clean any dirt that has been left on the skin pores even for a long time. It’s so simple you will be flawed by the results it can have. (No wonder lemon juice is the key ingredient in most cleaners/ dishwashing liquids etc.)

Step 1: Slice a lemon into two and rub the open part on the chest area

Step 2: Leave it on for 2-3 hours

Step 3: Wash the area thoroughly.

Apple Cider Vinegar

So turns out apple cider vinegar isn’t just a great salad ingredient but also does wonders for any bacterial infection on the skin! It can balance the pH level of the skin keeping the alkaline level in check, so that it is harder for bacteria to penetrate.

Step 1: Take a teaspoon of apple cider vinegar and place it on a cotton ball.

Step 2: Rub the cotton ball on the skin & leave for about 30 minutes (or overnight if possible)

Step 3: Clean with fresh water.

Tea Tree Oil

The medicinal properties of tea tree oil are well known today, with any major skincare brand boasting a whole range featuring this star ingredient. Tea tree oil is a great natural remedy to cleaning the skin + killing bacteria, making it an ideal natural solution for chest acne.

Step 1: Place one drop of tea tree oil on the acne affected chest area.

Step 2: Leave it on till completely dry. (No washing off required)

Multani Mitti

No skin care advice can be complete without talking about Fuller’s earth or Multani Mitti. This wondrous natural clay absorbs excess oil from the skin but never dries out. The dash of rosewater (our favourite astringent) shrinks the pores, and sandalwood soothes the skin irritation. This one is like a magic potion that works on your skin in so many amazing ways.

Step 1: Mix together 1 tablespoon each of fuller’s earth, rose water and sandalwood powder.

Step 2: Apply this mixture on your chest acne & leave on for 20 minutes.

Step 3: Rinse off normally with water.

Egg Whites

We knew that egg was great for the hair but a cure for acne? Yes those ubiquitous egg whites are in fact rich in vitamins, proteins and amino acids, which is why they soak up the excess oil, fight with bacteria and shrink the pores preventing any dirt accumulation. Cheap, easy and effective!

Step 1: Whisk an egg white in a bowl till frothy.

Step 2: Apply on acne-affected area on chest

Step 3: Once dry, apply another layer of the egg white. Repeat this application process to put 4-5 layers on the skin.

Step 4: After the last application completely dries, rinse off with water.

Papaya

Our favourite breakfast fruit now doubles up as an awesome chest acne treatment! Papaya contains enzymes that have both antibacterial and antiviral properties. It unclogs the pores and exfoliates the accumulated dead skin. It also contains vitamins, which help in production of new and healthy skin cells.

Step 1: Peel and chop papaya into chucks.

Step 2: Blend the chunks into a paste

Step 3: Apply the paste on the affected areas of acne on the chest.

Step 4: Leave on for about 30 minutes and rinse off with water.

(For extra benefits, you can add honey, lemon juice or yogurt)

So there you have it… We think it’s time to get those chest acne issues off your chest…quite literally!

Remember that most acne treatments tend to contain harsh ingredients that promise overnight cures. Instead of investing in these choose a gentle cleanser like the Dove Deeply Nourishing Body Wash and follow that up with a potent moisturiser like the Vaseline Intensive Care Deep Restore Body Lotion that can nourish your skin.

Remember, the key is to be consistent and let the treatment take its course… And soon you can flaunt those fancy deep neck tops and low-back outfits you’ve been dying to wear!
