Can Stress Cause Skin Problems?

                       Best Dermatologist in Lucknow.

The mind and the skin are closely interconnected. Skin conditions such as acne, eczema, rosacea, psoriasis, vitiligo and even premature aging can both cause AND are triggered by stress!

Many of our nerve endings are connected to our skin and other organs. When we experience emotions, they can play out on our skin.

So how does stress affect these different skin conditions?

Acne – Stress is not the main cause of acne, but it is a big player. When you are stressed out, your adrenal glands release the hormone cortisol. A surge in cortisol causes increased sebum production, which triggers acne. Chronically high levels of cortisol can lead to sugar cravings, and eating sugar also increases acne breakouts. The presence of pimples is already stressful enough!

Eczema –
Anxiety about stress at work, school, and home can make eczema flare up. This is partly due to high cortisol levels, which triggers inflammation in our bodies and aggravates inflammation issues (including eczema).

In addition, studies have shown that sleep plays a role by impacting our skin’s ability to heal eczema. The itching and discomfort of your eczema are, by itself, stressful and may even keep you awake at night. This is only making the problem worse!

Rosacea –
Those of you with rosacea know that dealing with the visible signs of rosacea can trigger more flushing, which can lead to even more stress. In a survey done by the National Rosacea Society, 70% of people with severe rosacea symptoms said it negatively affected their professional interactions, and 41% said rosacea made them avoid public contact or cancel plans.

You know it impacts your life on more than just a physical level, and I know how frustrating that can be. Women can sometimes cover it up with makeup, but it’s not addressing the problem.

Vitiligo – This autoimmune skin disorder is characterized by white spots or patches appearing on the skin. These spots are from lack of pigmentation caused by destruction or weakening of the pigment cells in those areas. Stress is not the direct cause of vitiligo, but it can make it worse. We know that stress negatively impacts our immune system, and being anxious or stressed can aggravate autoimmune conditions (including vitiligo and psoriasis).

Premature Aging – When we’re having a bad day, we usually frown more. While I’m a big fan of smile lines, I don’t think anyone likes the looks of excessive frown lines, which are likely to occur with chronic stress. High levels of cortisol are likely to cause insomnia, belly fat and an inability to roll with what life brings our way.

Take a deep breath! Don’t stress about all that I’ve written above…

Here are my top 10 tips to decrease stress

1.When we laugh,
our cortisol levels drop and serotonin (our mood-boosting neurotransmitter) increases. It’s the fastest and easiest way to stop stress fast. And, remember, smile lines are so much sexier than frown lines!

2.This might seem like a simple task, but most people don’t know how to breathe to relieve stress. The first step is to be aware of your breathing. Next, take deep breaths that expand your chest and belly while relaxing your muscles in your neck and shoulders. (Tip: try counting to 10 breathing inward and then another 10 count breathing out.)

3.Surround yourself with positive people. We can’t always choose who is around us at work and school, but we can choose the people we are within our free time. Look for people who radiate positivity. You know who they are, and you’ll be happier for it! When we’re positive too, our skin is more likely to heal and have a healthy glow.

4.It only takes a few minutes and can quickly reduce stress. Close your eyes and picture a scene you love such as a beach, mountaintop, or picnic spot, and sit quietly to fully experience the beauty, serenity, and joy it brings. If you have skin issues, you can also visualize healing of your tissues and healthy, glowing skin taking over.

5.Get out in nature. Step away from your computer, phone, or energy-zapping situation and into nature. Even if it’s just a quick walk around the block or park, a few moments in the sun and fresh air can boost your mood and give you a little extra Vitamin D to brighten your day. Not to mention, it’s a great time to take a break from a stressful situation and breathe.

6.Move your body.
Studies show that moderate exercise improves our energy, mood, and sleep. If we exercise every morning (without overdoing it), it can help balance our adrenal function to help us better cope with stress.

7.Sleep soundly. Sleep is essential for helping us energize, manage stress, and stay focused and positive. Optimally, we should all get about 8 hours of uninterrupted sleep each night. (Tip: Try taking a warm bath with a few drops of lavender essential oil and some Epsom salt before bedtime.)

8.Eat a healthy diet.
Include plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables and high-quality protein to ensure your body has all the nutrients it needs to keep your hormones balanced and your skin healthy. (Tip: Start your day with a nutrient-packed smoothie and skip the grains and sugar.)

9.Practice gratitude. Gratitude is about appreciating what you have around you. Research shows gratitude helps us feel happier, improve our health, be better at dealing with problems that arise, and build solid relationships. (Tip: Start a gratitude journal and write down 1 thing every day that you’re grateful for.)

10.Research shows that meditation helps you lower stress,
be more compassionate, improve sleep, boost mood, decrease inflammation, and even lower yearly doctor costs! The goal of meditation is to focus and quiet your mind in order to have greater clarity and inner calm. (Tip: Simply close your eyes and focus on a word that brings you a sense of peace. Let go of all other thoughts.)

Even if you have seemingly perfect skin, you might not treat it very well when you’re under stress. Stressed out people often develop bad habits such as picking and rubbing bumps and blemishes, which can lead to permanent scarring.

Stress may also lead you to neglect your skin care regimen, which should include daily cleansing and nourishment. Not only do you want to carefully select clean, all-natural skincare products, you want to also nourish your body on the inside with healthy foods and nutrients.

Treat your Stress for Clear Skin, and When you Skin improves your Mood will do the same!

6 Skin-Enhancing Essential Oils

Best Skin Care Hospital in Lucknow.

Essential oils have long been known for their therapeutic effects and powerful natural fragrance. I hope more skin care companies will switch over to essential oils and eliminate synthetic fragrances containing toxic ingredients.

There are six essential oils that are my absolute favorites. There are much more that are fantastic for skin and overall health, but I’m going to focus on some of my top picks.

First, it’s important to know how to use essential oils safely. Essential oils are powerful and healing when used properly. There are a few things to keep in mind so you obtain the benefits without concern.

Tips for Safely Using Essential Oils

  • Check for purity. The purity of essential oils ranges greatly, so be sure to only use essential oils with the absolute highest standards. Some essential oils are extracted with harmful practices. Ask questions about the extraction process, purity, and concentration.
  • Do a patch test. Some people are sensitive to essential oils and may develop contact dermatitis or skin irritation. If you tend to react easily, it’s best to do a patch test by applying the skin care product with essential oils to a small area of your inner forearm and place a band-aid over it. If you have a rash, redness or itchiness within 24 hours, then you may have a sensitivity and should reconsider using the product elsewhere on your body.
  • Start small and simple. Generally, it’s best to start with 2 – 3 drops per application. I like to use a carrier oil such as coconut oil, almond oil or jojoba oil and mix 1 or 2 drops essential oils in 2 – 5 Tablespoons of oil to start. I don’t generally recommend people apply straight essential oils (without diluting) when they’re first trying it out. Some oils are stronger than others, so you’ll want to dilute them even more.
  • Use caution in the sun when using citrus essential oils. Furanocoumarin is a chemical component in the citrus peel that is responsible for sun sensitivity (easy burning or excess pigmentation) and potentially serious damage to the skin when it’s on skin that is exposed to sunlight. In The Spa Dr. skin care products (Daily Essentials Steps 2 and 3), we use furanocoumarin-free oil so that it’s safe for use with sun exposure. If you’re using skin care products with citrus essential oils, it’s important to make sure that they’re furanocoumarin-free.
  • Use caution when using straight (undiluted) essential oils therapeutically. This is particularly important if you are pregnant, nursing or wanting to use essentials on your baby or child. Certain components of essential oils such as ketones can be great for healing but can be neurotoxic to sensitive patients such as people with seizure disorders, pregnant women, and babies.
  • Work with a specialist. If you have a specific health or skin issues, it’s best to work with a qualified health care provider to help ensure you’re getting the best care possible and your condition can be safely monitored. If you want to use essential oils therapeutically, consider working with someone well trained in essential oils.

Here are 6 of my favorite essential oils for skin:

1. Tea tree oil

Tea tree oil has antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory properties and is well known to help reduce acne breakouts in patients with mild-to-moderate acne. In addition to helping acne, the research shows tea tree oil to be effective at addressing seborrheic dermatitis and chronic gingivitis (gum disease) as well as speeding the wound healing process. Because of its antifungal and antiviral effects, tea tree oil may also help with warts and fungal infections (such as athlete’s foot and nail fungus). It even has been shown to have antibacterial activity against MRSA and may be helpful as an adjunct therapy.

2. Ylang Ylang Flower Oil

This beautiful essential oil has an exotic sweet smell and has a euphoric, sedative effect on the nervous system so it often helps relieve tension and stress. Topically, ylang-ylang oil helps with sebum-balance for both overly dry and overly oily complexions. It has an amazing ability to help maintain proper moisture levels by preventing our skin’s water loss which, in turn, makes the skin appear resilient and smooth. It also has a soothing effect. It is one of the star oils in The Spa Dr.’s Daily Essentials proprietary 100% organic, natural essential oil blend.

3. Bergamot Fruit Oil

This oil has a lovely natural fragrance as well as antiseptic and antibacterial properties. It can help regulate sebum secretion, and it has been known to even out skin tone and promote wound healing. Blemishes of all types benefit from its topical application. Since this is a citrus oil, it’s important to be careful of sun exposure after using this oil. You can use it in the evenings in small amounts, but some people continue to have sun sensitivity effects 24 hours after use. So, that’s why, with The Spa Dr. skin care, we use Fuorocoumarin-Free, also referred to as Bergaptene-Free, bergamot oil.

4. May Chang Peel Oil

This oil is widely used in Traditional Chinese Medicine for its anti-congestive, antiseptic and calming benefits. In skin care, it helps address oily skin and breakouts thanks to its astringent, antimicrobial anti-inflammatory action. May Chang Peel oil is known for its deep cleansing and pore-reducing effects without irritating or drying out the skin. It’s soothing and healing to the skin and its amazing smell makes it the perfect natural fragrance, which is why we also include this in The Spa Dr.’s Daily Essentials proprietary 100% organic, natural fragrance.

5. Clary Sage

Clary sage oil contains natural antimicrobial agents so it can be helpful in addressing wounds and skin infections. Research shows it can help fight certain Staphylococcus infections, which are common bacterial causes of skin infections. (Postepy Dermatol Alergol) Skin infections are common, but it is important to see your doctor if your infection is serious or continues for more than a few days without improvement.

6. Lavender

This popular essential oil is known for its stress-reducing, soothing and calming properties as well as its antimicrobial activities against bacteria, fungi, and yeasts. Research shows it also has anti-inflammatory and immune boosting effects. These benefits plus pain-reducing and wound-healing properties make lavender one of my favorites in skin care and skin healing treatments.

As I mentioned before, there are many more essential oils with therapeutic and naturally fragrant properties. For example, peppermint oil, lemon balm, lemongrass, jasmine, and frankincense have skin-enhancing and healing benefits. I could go on, but I want to keep it simple and give you a place to start using essential oils in your skincare today. Enjoy!

5 Ways to Get Rid of Those Pesky Sunspots on Your Chest

Best Skin Care Treatment in Lucknow.

Years of sun-worshipping may have turned you into a golden goddess, but damage due to increased melanin production can lead to sunspots, freckles and blotchy skin, especially on your chest. “Sunspots are lessons (they’re typically brown) that develop with age and long-term sun exposure,” explains Norwalk, CT, dermatologist Deanne Mraz Robinson, MD. But you don’t have to live with a spotty décolleté forever, as these fixes can reduce the spots and restore your natural glow.

1/5

Prevent further damage with a sunscreen that brightens skin.

According to San Diego plastic surgeon Larry Pollack, MD, the best way to treat existing sunspots is by protecting your skin from the sun’s harmful rays. “Superficial sunspots can be treated best with preventive measures, including good sunscreens and protective clothing.” Hampton Sun Age-Defying SPF 50 Mineral Crème ($52) combines natural fruit extracts, like grapefruit, lemon, tangerine, and orange, with antioxidants to correct uneven skin tone while protecting delicate skin from further damage.

2/5

Lighten dark spots with a blend of natural bleaching agents.

To reduce the look of sunspots, hydroquinone, which inhibits melanin production, may be prescribed by your doctor. While effective, there are hydroquinone-free options that are helpful in lightening dark spots, too. Good anon hydroquinone-based lighteners include arbutin, niacinamide (vitamin B3) and kojic acid. SkinMedica Lytera 2.0 Pigment Correcting Serum ($154) is free of hydroquinone and relies on a marine extract blend and niacinamide to lighten spots without irritation.

3/5

Exfoliate away rough, discolored skin and increase cell turnover.

In-office chemical peels and exfoliating treatments work to remove the top layer of dead skin to erase sunspots. “Acid peels, like a trichloroacetic acid (TCA) peel, are effective in reducing pigmentation and improving skin tone,” says Dr. Pollack. At-home peels and exfoliators aren’t as strong but can lighten sunspots, too. Inspired by in-office microdermabrasion, Juice Beauty Stem Cellular Resurfacing Micro-Exfoliant ($55) contains grapeseed extract microparticles that refresh and renew darkened skin.

4/5

Improve skin luminosity with a brightening cream.

Much of the sun’s damage is due to oxidative stress that accelerates the skin’s aging process, resulting in wrinkles, sunspots, loss of elasticity and dull, dry skin. In addition to increased melanin production, UV exposure also causes the collagen and elastin in the deeper layers of the skin to break down, giving it less support. Formulated with vitamin E and rose otto oil, EVE LOM Brightening Cream ($110) helps speed up the rate of repair, increase skin elasticity and diminish dullness and discoloration.

5/5

Target stubborn sunspots with a skin-rejuvenation treatment.

In-office light-based and laser treatments work wonders at targeting spots and improving skin tone. According to Baton Rouge, LA, dermatologist Ann Zedlitz, MD, an Intense Pulse Light (IPL) or Broadband Light (BBL), treatment can remove bothersome spots on your chest. “The light energy delivered by the BBL (used on the patient here) heats up the skin’s upper layers, stimulating skin cells to generate new collagen, which helps restore youthful skin by eliminating pigment, sunspots and broken blood vessels that cause redness.”

Green Tea for Clearer Skin

Green tea is widely known to offer many health benefits to those who drink it or take it as a supplement. But did you know that green tea can also be very beneficial to those who suffer from acne or dry skin? In fact, it is one of organic skin care's best home remedies for acne.

It contains polyphenols that are known to help protect skin from UV rays that can cause cancer and speed up skin aging. Green tea is able to protect the skin by reducing inflammation and free radicals, like toxins and dirt that clog pores and damage skin. This chemical and side effect-free remedy has increased in popularity in recent years as many see the wonderful benefits green tea offers for their skin.

How Do I Use Green Tea for Clear Skin?

You can drink green tea and utilize its benefits, but you can also target its powers to certain areas, like the face, by applying it topically. There are many green tea recipes offered by home remedies bloggers. Here are two that are easy to make and still offer all of the wonderful benefits of green tea:

  • Simple Green Tea MaskSteep 1 to 2 organic green tea bags for two minutes
  • Cut the bags open and, using clean fingers, massage the green tea leaves on your face
  • Let the mask sit for 20 to 30 minutes
  • Rinse with warm water
  • Use this simple “mask” once or twice a week.

Green Tea Mask with HoneyHoney has excellent anti-bacterial and antiseptic properties for skin.

Why not combine honey and green tea for even more acne-fighting power?

  • Steep 1 to 2 organic green tea bags for two minutes
  • Cut the tea bags open, allowing the tea leaves to fall out
  • Mix in 1 to 2 tablespoons of organic honey to form a paste
  • Massage the paste over the entire face, avoiding the eye area.
  • Let the mask sit for 20 to 30 minutes
  • Rinse with warm water
  • It is safe to use this effective green tea mask once or twice a week.

There are many options when it comes to organic skin care. All you need for a green tea mask is green tea, though there are many variations to combine other skin-benefiting items, such as honey for example. Green tea has wonderful cancer fighting and skin renewing properties, with no side effects, which makes it a great option for anyone who suffers from acne or simply wants healthier, glowing skin.

Best Hair Care Hospital in Lucknow.

Alternatives to prevent hair loss in men

Patterned baldness is a common phenomenon for most men. This condition is also known as androgenetic alopecia and can start from the age of 15 and continue till you grow old. Previously, hair loss in men was something very common, but nowadays, patterned baldness has become a major talking point. It can happen from a hereditary problem or if your diet is not filled with proteins and minerals. In addition to diets and heredity, it can also happen because of the hormones. Testosterone plays an important role in controlling the hair loss in men. The lesser testosterone you have in your body, the more chances of hair fall at a relatively early age.

Minoxidil

Over the years, doctors have come up with various medicines to combat. Minoxidil is one of the most popular amongst those medicines and is an antihypertensive vasodilator kind of medication that is known to stop hair fall in men. It also promotes hair growth and that is why many people consider it. In addition to Minoxidil, there are various natural ways in which you can stop hair fall and promote hair growth.

Other Ways For Hair Regrowth

Artificial treatment for men can turn out to be really expensive and if you do not have so much of money, it is better to stick to the natural and homemade remedies. Given below are some of the best natural remedies that can be the best treatments for men.

Drinking more water

Drinking plenty of water on a regular basis will not keep hair fall away, but will also keep your healthy and will not let your skin dry up quickly. Try to drink at least 4 liters of water daily to ensure that your hair does not fall so frequently like before. For thinning hair men, this is considered to be one of the most effective hair loss treatments for men. When you keep your hair hydrated, the roots will not become dry. Most hair fall happens because of the dry roots and drinking more water will not let that happen.

Eliminating stress

If you have searched online with “how to stop hair loss in men”, you must have come across the fact that stress plays a crucial role in hair fall. Many doctors suggest that if you are in a tiring job that keeps you stressed almost every day, it might lead to unnatural hair fall. Thinning hair men should start looking for jobs that keep them happy and they are not stressed all the time. Most of the times physical or emotional stress leads to hair loss and that concerns more in men, easing the stress is the one possible way to prevent hair fall.

Scalp massage

Scalp massages help increase the blood circulation in the hair follicles and also decrease stress to a great extent as the pressure applied on the scalp plays a key role. A scalp massage with castor oil or coconut oil can be a very good hair fall treatment for men. It will open up the blood vessels that lead to the root and thus reduce the loss.

Egg wash

Take a teaspoon of olive oil and mix it with the egg white. Beat the mixture well till they become a paste and apply this paste on your scalp. Gently massage the mixture into your hair and scalp and keep it for half an hour before rinsing it off with a mild shampoo it avoids hair fall in men.

Stop eating red meat

Eating red meat frequently is known to have various side effects such as hair fall and heart attacks. So, if you are looking to reduce hair fall, then try not to include red meat in your daily diet.

These are few simple tricks that you can follow daily to avoid excessive hair fall and grow new hair.

6 Ways to Get Your Skin Perfect so You Can Be Makeup-Free

Best Skin Care Hospital in Lucknow.

The thought of leaving the house without a stitch of makeup, nary a drop of concealer or even tinted moisturizer, is one that millions of women dream of. But, unfortunately for the majority of us, things like discoloration, rosacea, acne, sun damage and melasma, among so many other things, have us reliant on makeup each and every day.

We turned to the top dermatologists, plastic surgeons and skin experts for their take on what you really need to do in order to get flawless skin so that you skip wearing makeup altogether. Here’s what they had to say.

1/6

Load up on the right products.

In order to get your skin in tip-top shape, you need to make sure that you are using the right type of products. Los Gatos, CA, dermatologist Steven L. Swengel, MD, says that good, clear skin starts with the properly chosen products for use at home including exfoliators, antioxidants, retinol's, heparin sulfate analogs, and properly selected growth factors. “And, of course, sunscreens need to be used that are zinc- and titanium-based,” he says. “Some newer more active sunscreens for the face are coming from SENTÉ, ZO, Elta MD and ALASTIN this year.”

2/6

Brighten up.

For skin that’s lackluster and deficient of any type of healthy glow, Washington D.C. dermatologist Tina Alster, MD, says to use an antioxidant-rich vitamin C serum, like SkinCeuticals CE Ferulic and added photoprotection. The combination helps safeguard skin against sun damage while brightening it, too.

3/6

Shun the sun.

Salt Lake City plastic surgeon Renato Saltz, MD, says that perfect skin all starts with good genes and zero sun exposure. “You need to wear sunblock at all times and avoid the sun,” he adds. “Options to improve sun damaged, aging skin include chemical peels, IPL, Clear + Brilliant and of course my favorite gold standard for fine wrinkles, CO2 laser resurfacing.”

4/6

Exfoliate regularly.

When dead skin cells build up on the surface of the skin the result is skin that looks dull, dry and even possibly dirty. New York dermatologist Sejal Shah, MD, says regular exfoliation is important. “I usually suggest incorporating a glycolic or salicylic acid product, such as pads, one to three times per week to help.”

5/6

Moisture matters.

According to Beverly Hills, CA, aesthetician Nerida Joy, moisturizer can make a world of difference in the way your skin looks. “A light humectant moisturizer is great if you are living in a humid climate. But in a dryer climate, you must be able to feel almost a little sticky on the outer layer to protect the skin,” she says. “You have to be consistent.”

6/6

Don’t neglect the little things.

One of the easiest ways to get your skin looking good is to make healthy changes to what you eat and your workout routine because both can actually impact the health of your skin. “Doing small things such as getting a good night's sleep, drinking more water and eating less sugar can show in the skin in as little as a week,” says New York dermatologist Doris Day, MD. “If you add in exercise and topical treatments, good hydration and topical antioxidants it will take your skin to a whole new level. Finally, dermatologists have great treatments from gentle fractional resurfacing lasers, peels, tightening devices, filler, and neuromodulators to help enhance and maintain your complexion.”

Regular application of Neem on affected areas provides immense relief to people who suffer from eczema. While Neem is one of the best natural remedies for providing relief from the symptoms of eczema, it cannot cure the root causes of the disease (1).
Neem For Eczema:

Neem can treat the symptoms of eczema as it has the following properties:

The best way to treat eczema is to prevent the skin from getting dry. Here are some ways Neem can help provide relief from eczema:

  • Neem is a natural emollient, and thus dermatologists recommend using Neem oil or a Neem based moisturizer on the skin that is prone to drying and eczema.
  • Using Neem oil can also fill the cracks in the skin that happen due to eczema and prevent further loss of moisture from the skin.

Neem is by far the safest and the most effective natural remedy for treating skin conditions like eczema. You can use it to provide relief to babies and children suffering from eczema.

A Word Of Caution:

If you are using Neem oil for eczema, remember not to dab the oil directly. Direct application of the Neem oil can make matters worse for your skin since it is very strong. Instead, dilute it by adding it to light carriers such as grape seed oil or almond oil (3).
